I’m feeling a little tired of rhythm games at the minute – while The Beatles: Rock Band was a lovingly crafted and charming experience, it was really more of the same note-hitting action we’re already familiar with. Guitar Hero 5 really felt like a nail in the coffin for the genre – sure, it was polished, but you get the impression that the genre is running out of ideas.
In any case, the next iteration of Rock Band, featuring a plethora of minifigs and LEGO blocks to play with, is coming soon (November the 3rd to be precise). The set list looks pretty good – a decent mix of recent hits, with a few classics in there – and will be exportable, so you can play in Rock Band 2 if you’re so inclined.
45 songs seems a bit stingy, but I guess there’s less filler on there than the 85 songs featured in GH5. Don’t think I’ll be buying this on release, but definitely worth picking up cheaper, or better still – as a rental title.
